But I think the vast majority of people now would agree the ultra-wide angle lenses on smartphones are so popular now because they ARE useful.

it's like those who argue ultra-wide angle lenses on smartphones are useless. Others argue having zooms beyond a certain level are pointless. Show me a smartphone photo you can take of someone across the other side of the grand canyon. Those who say their smartphones offers the same thing are using this camera wrong. Those who have very specific hobbies such as bird watching or capturing the moon etc will find use in this.

Where this camera does make sense is for those casual people who want something a bit more than what a smartphone camera can bring you, but doesn't want to spend $1000+ nor lug around a backpack full of chargers and adapters and filters and 7 different lenses etc. Stick with the system you probably already have at home and move on from this thread rather than put others down for considering this unit. This camera probably won't bring much extra to you other than a massive zoom, that you wouldn't even be happy with anyway given it's not RAW, dynamic range is poor, small sensor etc etc. My opinion is that this camera is NOT for the photography aficionado who already has their own DSLR and a bunch of different dedicated prime, telephoto, macro and ultra-wide lens and knows Photoshop like the back of their hands. And it needs a LOT of light for it to work properly. What you get this unit for is the massive zoom. you're definitely looking at something much closer to the modern day smartphone quality rather than high end DSLRs. But for those who know what to look for, in terms of softness, or colour reproduction, dynamic range, noise etc. I've shown images from vastly different camera systems to non-photography people and many can't tell the difference.

Image quality is hard to convey given everyone's perception and expectation is not the same. The flip screen on the unit, although not particularly high-res, is quite useful when you wanna use whatever is around you to prop the camera on for some added stability, especially at those higher zooms.

But that doesn't mean it's not a great system given it's price (esp while on sale) if you know what you're getting and how to use it.Ĭontrols are quite similar to other basic entry level DSLRs from Nikon's line and anyone with any experience with DSLRs should feel right at home. I like the p900 and find that it has its uses. Bought it off amazon for $699 before they jacked up the price. I would like it know the review from someone who one this now. But there are too big, and clumsy, and there is not much that can be done to fix that. In no way am I dissing DSLR cameras, they are better. a900.html The lens and sensor are too small to compare to any decent DSLR, but the zoom is there when it is needed. So I got a Nikon Coolpix A900 that I take everywhere. l820.html It is old, but it still takes good pictures, given enough light and stability. Thanks to cell phones, the bar is pretty low when pictures are presented to the Facebook crowd.

Not all pictures have to be pro quantity. On lower magnification settings, this camera is more forgiving. It works, but needs a lots of light and stability to get decent pictures. There is something to be said about super zoom cameras. Why not get a Sony A6000 or many of the other modern mirrorless options that will blow this out of the water? An eight year old DSLR with a 55-200 lens (or similar) will also destroy this in image quality. Unless you are paparazzi or taking bird photos, an 85X zoom is totally unnecessary and I can guarantee that image quality will be very poor at the long end. Cameras without RAW support are basically toys. Why are you guys so excited about this camera? Tiny sensor, no RAW support.
